In the 1970's and 80's,Ybor City had a very lively and rich music scene.Rev.Ralph was playing the piano at Carmine's.Cosmic Dave was going around with his 3 string guitar living vicariously through Bob Dylan and Keith Richard.Ron Britt was conducting the Saturday Night Jam in his storefront on 7th Ave.Zenith Nadir was the top punk band in the city.White Witch wound down their career after two amazing albums.Steve Martin,the singer from The Left Banke who'd had a hit with Walk Away Renee in the 1960's,moved into town.Gayle Natale was running Strangers in Hyde Park which was a hangout for the poets and performance artists in the area,and I was running ARTS ALIVE! which was the hangout in Ybor City. It is my understanding that Marty Balin of The Jefferson Airplane has made Ybor City his home. I've yet to see him. I did meet him once in New York. Nice guy. The Johnny G. Lyon Band was, and still is one of the best party bands around. Click on their link for their schedule.
